ArchiBlox has created Australia's first carbon positive prefab home. This means that not only is the home carbon zero but goes beyond this to generate excess electricity on site to feed it back to the grid. With 77 m2 , this home comes with all the necessities - a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, dining room and living room. It also features a conservatory area which is not only ideal for growing food, but plays into the overall system of thermal storage and release to reduce energy needs. In fact, every element of the house works to contribute to the overall performance of the home. It is therefore not surprising that a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) by eTool received a Platinum certification.
Costs of prefab homes are competitive with comparable non-prefab homes and are gaining in popularity. The Asia-Pacific is leading in the market followed by Europe and then North America. Prefab homes not only have environmental benefits, but it has been shown that these homes have increased durability, reduce project budgets and take less time to construct.
