European cities, build years and years before cars, are reverting back to old ways by taking more and more cars out of the equation. Here are what some of these cities are doing to get cars off the road:

Madrid has banned traffic from certain city streets and is working towards making central Madrid a pedestrian-only zone in the next five years. Redesigning city streets to be more accommondating for walking than driving and increased expenses for parking and heavy polluting cars are also driving this city towards a less car focused future.

Milan is using an Internet-connected box on car dashboards to see if people are leaving their cars at home. If they do, they will get free public transit vouchers.

Copenhagen, a leading cycling city, boasts more than 200 miles of bike lanes with plans to construct new bike superhighways to connect the city to nearby suburbs. The city also has many car-free zones.
