Anthony G. Bigio is Adjunct Professor at George Washington University’s Sustainable Urban Planning graduate program, and an Urban Advisor with over thirty years of international experience. He retired from the World Bank in 2013 after a two-decade career in urban development spanning projects on cities and climate change, urban resilience, urban environmental management, earth observation for development, low-cost housing, urban poverty reduction, and urban cultural heritage. He was a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 5th Assessment Report’s chapter on human settlements, infrastructure and spatial planning, and technical reviewer of the chapter on urban impacts of climate change. He is Green Growth Advisor for The Growth Dialogue, a policy program of GW Business School; member of the Advisory Boards of the New York-based UCCRN (Urban Climate Change Research Network) and of the EU-funded POCACITO research project (Post-Carbon Cities of Tomorrow). He consults and lectures internationally on urban resilience and urban green growth and has published extensively on the topics of urban development, climate change and urban cultural heritage.
